Achille Maramotti established Max Mara in Reggio Emilia in 1951. The business helped build an international identity for Italian ready-to-wear, with coats becoming a central part of its reputation. His role was that of founder and entrepreneur, distinct from the designers who subsequently shaped individual collections.
