Meet the Owners
Miguel and Gabriel, the dynamic duo in-charge at Sui Generis have been submerged in the retail world of sales and merchandising since the early 90s, and have spent their lives around fashion. It extends into a shared love of style, a passion which has made Sui Generis what it is today: a fashion & style hotspot.
Miguel and Gabriel graduated as an Industrial Engineer and a Photographer respectively. After just a few months of knowing each other they started buying and selling garments in Mexico. Successfully, they began selling a line of clothing at a Boutique called Irala Moda in Guadalajara. It was at this time that the foundations of Sui Generis began to form – crafting a unique, one of a kind style. The boutique became a renowned fashion choice for celebrities and friends Julia and Renata Franco, Rock Band Members Mana and Azul Violeta, and singers such as Alejandra Guzman and Eli Guerra.
It wasn’t long until Miguel and Gabriel moved to the US. Miguel started out at MaxMara, quickly jumping up through the company, and then being snapped up by Ralph Lauren in 2002 where he became their Senior Sales Professional in the downtown San Francisco store. After a good 7 years at Ralph Lauren is was time to turn his focus onto Sui Generis.
While Miguel was mastering the retail business, Gabriel focused on buying and selling vintage and second-hand men’s designer fashion in the U.S., becoming an expert in vintage garments. Both remained set on a life in fashion. Both journeys were instrumental in what Sui Generis is today.
