How We Measure
SUI GENERIS DESIGNER CONSIGNMENT
A little measuring makes finding the right piece easier. Use this guide to read our men’s and women’s measurements, then compare them with a similar piece you already own and love.
Measurements describe the garment or accessory. Check the individual listing for the measurements provided, the unit used, and any notes about stretch, alterations, or fit.
Women’s Measurements
The measurements included depend on the piece and its construction. These are the fields used in our women’s listings.

Dresses & Gowns
Bust, waist, hip, and length. Shoulder and sleeve measurements may also be included where applicable.
For strapless, halter, open-back, or asymmetric styles, contact us if you need the exact starting point used for a length measurement.
Tops, Shirts & Jackets
Shoulder, bust or chest, sleeve, and length. Sleeveless pieces may omit a sleeve measurement.
Sleeve length runs from the natural shoulder point or shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve, including the cuff. For dropped shoulders or raglan construction, ask us which starting point applies to the piece.
Trousers & Jeans
Waist, rise, inseam, and leg opening.
Check the listing for alteration notes and any additional notation beside the inseam. Contact us if you need a specific measurement explained before purchasing.
Skirts
Waist, hip, and length.
Some elastic or pleated pieces include a measurement range. Read the full range and ask us about the fit or stretch of the individual piece.
Compare like with like. Keep the listing’s measurement labels and units in view. If you are unsure whether a value is a flat width or a measurement around the garment, ask us before doubling it.
Men’s Measurements
For shirts and other collared garments, these diagrams show our chest, back-length, and sleeve-length methods.

Chest
Measured flat from armpit to armpit, then doubled to give the garment’s chest circumference.
22 in. across = 44 in. chest. Our listed chest measurements already include this doubling.
Back Length
Measured from the bottom of the collar straight down the center back to the bottom hem, excluding the collar.
Sleeve Length
Measured from the natural shoulder point or shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve, including the cuff.
For dropped shoulders or raglan sleeves, contact us to confirm the starting point used.
Footwear & Accessories
Shoes & Boots
Listings may show outsole length × width, or separate length and width measurements. Heeled styles may include heel height; boots may also list height.
An outsole measurement describes the outside of the shoe. Use the marked size and item-specific fit information alongside it.
Bags
Depending on the style, listings include length, width, height, and drop. Check which dimensions are provided for the individual bag.
Belts & Jewelry
Belts may include length, width, fit, and buckle dimensions. A belt’s total length and its listed fit are different measurements.
Necklace listings may include length.
Eyewear & Scarves
Eyewear listings may show length and height in centimeters. Accessories may use centimeters or millimeters to suit the piece or the brand’s stated unit.
Hermès scarves: our measurement guide uses centimeters (cm) only.
Understanding The Units
Inches: in., in, inches, and the inch marks ″ or " all mean inches.
Metric: cm means centimeters; mm means millimeters. For accessories, we use cm or mm where appropriate and follow the brand’s specified unit when applicable.
Some existing accessory listings use inches. Always read the unit shown beside the measurement; a change of unit also requires a conversion of the number.
